Energy Ministry: Gas Supply to Lebanon Has Not Begun; Contractual Quantity Estimated at 2 Million Cubic Meters per Day

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that the daily contractual quantity for supplying the Lebanese Republic with natural gas is estimated at around 2 million cubic meters per day, stressing that gas supplies to Lebanon have not yet begun.

The ministry added that the required daily quantities will be determined after the Lebanese side confirms the schedules of the quantities expected to be requested from Jordan, following the completion of the infrastructure in Lebanon.

It explained that the Lebanese side is currently working to repair and rehabilitate gas networks within its territory.

The ministry said that supplying Lebanon with natural gas will be carried out by importing shipments of liquefied natural gas from global markets and unloading them at the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at the Port of Aqaba.

Supplying Syria with Gas

Regarding supplies to Syria, the ministry explained that the daily contractual quantity is estimated at around 4 million cubic meters, noting that supplies are provided according to its daily needs.

It stressed that supplying Lebanon and Syria with natural gas simultaneously will not affect the Kingdom’s domestic needs or energy supply security.

The ministry noted that Jordan has four sources of natural gas supplies, including gas imported through pipelines from the Egyptian side and Chevron, gas produced locally from the Risha gas field, and imported liquefied natural gas delivered through the floating regasification vessel, which is supplied through the LNG port in the city of Aqaba.

The ministry said that the capacity of the floating regasification vessel is sufficient to cover the Kingdom’s natural gas needs, in addition to supplying Syria and Lebanon with gas.
